Meet Pearl-A Rescue Story

In 2003 I saw an ad for a 17-year-old mare for sale at MR feeds. I loved the older horses. They were more seasoned to work with and great lesson horses. I went to see Pearl who happened to live less than a mile away from my farm. I walked into a horror show!

Pearl was in a small dirty paddock with a run-in shed stood the skeleton of a horse. I almost died. The owner, a 24-year-old girl had been given Pearl when she was 14. The novelty had obviously worn off, and Pearl lived like a toy tossed away in the back yard. I told the woman that I need to have my vet check her. I wanted to rescue Pearl but also needed to know what I was getting into. The vet came the next day and said that she just needed food. So, I paid the girl and walked Pearl to our house. I can remember her walking along with her grossly oversized feet, skin, and bones and every once in while she would just look at me as if to say, “Thank you.” Well, we bathed her, had her feet trimmed and slowly fattened her up. She is still part of Adamsville Stables with a saucy attitude but a gentle and grateful soul. Pearl is definitely a special member of our equine family.
